[freespace] presents SF Salon Society: Civic Engagement

June 4, 2013 @ 7:00 pm - 10:00 pm

| Free

This is the first of June’s [ freespace ] Civic Hacking Salon Series!

San Francisco’s culture is one that celebrates art and technology. This is a city where creative works are imagined in coffee shops, cultivated in semi-renovated warehouses, and burst out of nowhere to take over streets and skylines. Artists, makers, and entrepreneurs are drawn here because of the innovative freedom this city affords.

This week, in honor of the National Day of Civic Hacking, we’re going to marvel at achievements in civic art and discuss how they have brought communities together – breaking down boundaries between demographics, classes, and cultures.

This is a time to celebrate those who are making new things, and be inspired to do so ourselves. It is a chance to learn more about our community, one that fosters an environment so supportive of our daring and risky adventures. Let’s share our experiences, dreams and desires about how we can make it better.

Arrive early to help set up and enjoy snacks. We’ll have a few keynotes (contact a host if you are interested in speaking) followed by group discussion. As conversation devolves, we’ll break up to plan, design, and execute some Arts of our own.
