^ Follow up discussion at last week’s link! In particular, there is lots of interest in assembling groups to find or create safe physical and mental spaces for people to make.

This week, we invite the wonderful-passionate-creative community of [freespace] to dive into the mechanics of building a team around the projects we’re most passionate about.

Motivation – How does one lead a group? Herding cats is an obligatory and difficult job, but someone has to do it. Share your stories about leading (even if not from a position of power) and compare the results of different motivational methods.

Hierarchy – Democracy, Doacracy, Consensus, (Benevolent?) Dictatorship… Some methods work better than others due to the quantity and personality of members involved, the duration and intensity of the project, or the scope or responsibilities.

Tools – How do you keep track of all the things? Who is in charge of kicking ass, getting research done, or pushing paper? I love the RACI system and Asana, you?

Following – We can’t and shouldn’t all be leaders. A flock of managers gets nothing done. How can one be an effective follower on a project while still expressing one’s creativity, independence, and ownership?

Because of the size of the group, we’ll include a breakout space where people can break off groups to focus on projects from last week or build a team around something new.

Arrive early to help set up and meet people. Discussion starts promptly at 8pm. Nibbles and sips to share always welcome (thanks for the cherries and pastries, last week!)
