Overview of modern day graffiti, with author Jim Prigoff.
He is the author of Spray Can Art, which he generously gifted to [freespace].
A one hour slide presentation of 100 images tracing the history of Graffiti and particularly the modern Graff Movement. Jim Prigoff has been in the streets of the US and the world documenting the rise of Graffiti and Street Art for the past 40 years. As a photographer and historian he will be showing remarkable images from his personal archive of some 80,000 slides.
He is the co-author of Spraycan Art, a seminal book published in 1987 that traced the art form out of the tunnels of NYC and along the elevated tracks in Philadelphia to see how it had spread across the country and around the world. The book has sold over 200,000 copies.
In 2011, at the Estria Foundation Art event in Los Angeles, Jim was recognized as an “Urban Legend” and presented with a sculpture made from can tops created by CanLove.
