On Tuesday, June 25th we would like to host a Design Experience to introduce design principles and showcase how design and art can help shape and build community for approximately 12-20 youth in the 6-13 age range. We will accomplish this through an engaging and educational program that introduces a group of youths to some basic design thinking in an interactive forum. A basic agenda for the event is laid out below. The format will include a discussion panel of design experts, speaking about the city of SF and the positive aspects designers are able to create in this city, than smaller groups in a participatory exercise. Attendees will share their thoughts about the city and then get hands-on experience through the design of their very own solutions to a chosen issue. We can arrange for the attendees to play in small groups working together to promote teamwor k and playfulness and showcase their flair and creativity.

• Design speakers – with a focus on SF

• Project around a need we can address within SF is explained; teams and mentors are assigned (Potential Projects: Cleanliness, Bike Share, Parklet, Playlet*, other.)
 2:35pm – 3:00pm
• Time for each team to have an idea session
 3:05 – 4:05pm
• Teams design, create and play on their ideas
 4:15pm – 4:45pm
• Teams present their solution to the group
 4:45pm – 5:00pm
• Free time to explore the space, ask questions, reflect on the day and make friends
 5:00pm

*Playlet is the playground version of a Parklet. A small intimate version of a playground placed near a youth friendly venue.
